Comets Caring for the Community - DONATION DRIVE

When we hear the word “Homeless” we often envision someone holding a sign, asking for food, and living under a city bridge.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education defines homelessness as individuals who lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence due to a participating event

The number of reported homeless students enrolled in public school districts throughout the United States during the 2017-18 year was 1,508,265. In the 2018-19 school year, 41,487 students were homeless in Pennsylvania alone.

If you think Homelessness does not touch home, think again.  During the 2018-19 school year, 11 students from the Penns Manor Area School District were identified as homeless; an additional 16 students during the 2019-20 school year.

Sadly, these numbers are alarmingly increasing due to the ramifications of the COVID-19 Virus; leaving many without jobs and the ability to pay for utilities, rent, and food.

The Penns Manor High School Student Council is reaching out to help the students and families of our District who are in need, by sponsoring the COMETS CARING FOR THE COMMUNITY Donation Drive.  During the week of February 8 – 12th,  students and staff are encouraged to donate items of need by placing them in a collection bag located in each homeroom.  Public Donations can be placed in the drop-off box located in the lobby of the District Office.

Together we can make a difference!
